Why did Gandhi fast after Indian independence? A. To convince the Hindu's and Muslims of India to end their fighting B. Because there was so little food available C. To prove that he was a holy man D. To convince the British that India was capable of governing itself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im stuck between B and D because there was a famine among the Indians because of the British, so maybe D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah its D. Because he did the nonviolent protests for that reason.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's A because Gandhi was very opposed to the partition of India, and hoped like his previous fasts that brought change, his fast would quell violence and keep India unified. "Gandhi was opposed to partition, and now fasted in an attempt to bring calm in Calcutta and Delhi. On 30 January 1948, he was assassinated in Delhi by a Hindu fanatic." http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/gandhi_mohandas.shtml The reason D doesn't work is because if you think about it, what does it accomplish? I'm going to not eat to show we can rule ourselves? The two things aren't really related, so it isn't exactly the most logical choice.

Yeah its A
