Suppose a fungus destroys the central xylem and phloem tissues in the roots of a tree. What function of the root system will be lost because of this damage? a. The roots will no longer be able to provide structural support. b. The roots will no longer be able to store glucose and water. c. The roots will not be able to transport minerals and water. d. The roots will not be protected from water loss to the surroundings.

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

I don't think xylem and phloem support anything. They are transport tissues.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi, sorry my computer froze, so what is it?

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

Phloem transports water and xylem transports other stuff. It should be pretty obvious.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c?

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

Yes I agree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh really?, that was a guess...

OpenStudy (hectoroftroy):

All I know is that xylem and phloem transport stuff. And C is the only option with transport in it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank u so much!
