Find the distance between the two points. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary. (8, 8), (12, 11) (1 point) 7 5 25 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the distance formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

mathlife, I see that you are learning about the pythagorean theorem right now.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Instead of closing and opening new questions, do you want someone to explain it to you? It will make your test questions much easier, we promise you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes & i really neeed to pass this.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Well, even if you pass this now, it will come back and bite you for the unit exam. Safest way is just to learn the theorem; trust me, it is not that hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Since I have to go to bed, I'll just attempt to fetch the best users :) @FoolForMath @cshalvey @nbouscal Please explain the concept of the pythagorean theorem to mathlife99. THanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay , thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can somone help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

They are here, let them type :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what does this numbers (8, 8) , (12, 11) are about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are called cartesian-coordinates. It's one of the cutest thing of mathematics. French mathematician René Descartes introduced this idea. I called it cute because it introduces relationship between planer geometry and algebra like putting numbers to abstract stuffs. Read a little about it from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem you are doing is to find the distance between any two points in this system.
