Sociological Imagination - What do you think Mills meant when he said some “individuals, in the welter of their daily experience, often become falsely conscious of their social positions?”
Individuals become so caught up in their own little worlds and attribute all of their problems to something innate about them rather than looking out side of them for social trends that are likely the cause of their woes. The sociological imagination is the ability to see that we can socially organize to make changes that affect our personal lives
By this quote, Mills meant that individuals tend to manufacture a social position in their heads, and stress out about it. The ironic thing is that these manufactured positions may be completely false. One could think very highly of themselves, but in actuality have a low social position. And vice-versa. The idea is that we need to get out of our heads, stop worrying so much about our social positions, and start helping other people.
