Note the use of the Pythagorean Theorem. Also, 10 times square root of 2 and 10 are not like terms. The perimeter is, as shown, 10√2 + 10

That is probably why you do not understand. You need to learn it. The square of the hypotenuese of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. That's where the 10^2 = x^2 + x^2 comes from.
