In the 1790s, the British seized American cargo, impressed American seamen, and kept occupying the forts in the West. John Jay was sent to England to fix the problem and avert war between the two nations. The treaty that was created angered people like Jefferson and Robert Livingston; Hamilton supported it, and so got a lot of angry people against him in New York. Some provisions of the treaty: - Withdrawal of British soldiers from forts in the West. - The creation of a commission to solve disputes between Canada and the U.S. - The creation of a commission that would resolve the losses of both the Americans and the British during the Revolutionary war.
