Part 1: Explain, in complete sentences, what it means to write a polynomial in standard form. Part 2: Provide an example of a 4-term polynomial, not in standard form, and explain how to rewrite it in standard form.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

start with the highest power of x as the 1st term... then terms are arranged in order... highest power to lowest power e.g. \[P(x)= 3x^2 + 2 + x^3 + 3x\] correctly its \[P(x) = x^3 + 3x^2 +3x +2 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the definition of a polynomial is \[P(x)=p _{0}+p _{1}x+p _{2}x^2 + p _{3}x^3+....+p _{n}x^n\] where n is a positive integer or zero... I'm not sure what your definition of standard form is... perhaps you have to write it with a monic 1st term... and a there is the simplest polynomial... the zero polynomial
