Think back to the story "Told in the Drooling Ward." Write a problem-solution paragraph in which you propose a solution to discrimination against special needs individuals. To show that you know the story well, use examples from the story as evidence or arguments to support your ideas.

Do you think you could attach the story so we could read it and be able to help you more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, let me take a look and I'll see what I can do. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thanks so much :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, from what I gather, the speaker has special needs too, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what im thinking,, but not sure.. Dx

Well, it seems he has a mild case. Context clues say that he is "feeble" enough to be in the "Home", but not bad enough because he said something about being able to leave whenever he wanted. It's kind of sad though that he calls the other special needs people droolers. :(

do you think you could help me write like a paragraph like it says way up there ^^ lol,,, please? but if u dont want to its alright...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The character Dr. Whatcomb even said something about "feebs" not being able to get married. :( So, I do think he has a mild case of something... And of course! :) Let me read the story and I'll try my best.

alright thx :))

I think if people really looked at those who have special needs as people too, it would be a lot better for them. People think that just because they're special needs that they're not smart. But they can't help the way they are. In the story, it mentioned that when Tom went to live with Peter Bopp and his wife, their children made faces at him while he wasn't looking and other boys in the neighborhood threw rocks at him. I think that there shouldn't be a discrimination against those who have special needs and that everyone should treat them with kindness. Tom even mentioned in the story that they listened to him when they spoke and that they were smart. Just because they can't say what they're thinking, it doesn't mean they don't have the right to be treated with decency like everyone else. So, as I mentioned before, a solution should be for people to adjust their mental attitude towards those with special needs and view them as people, too. And we should all treat people the way we want to be treated. (How does that sound?)

I know it's kind of cheesy, but it's something. :P
