what is the effects of gibberellic acid on gibberella fujikuroi?
Gibberella fujikuroi actually infects plants and produces an excess of gibberellin (the fungus was where gibberellin got its name and was first discovered). It turns out that gibberellin plays a huge role in plants as a hormone which regulates growth and germination. The disease caused by this fungus, also known as "foolish seedling disease", causes the plant to grow so large that they'll sometimes tip over and die! So while gibberellin doesn't affect the fungus G. fujikuroi directly, it presumably allows it to spread more easily. Oh and I should mention - Gibberellic acid is simply a form (the most common, I believe) of a gibberellin...gibberellin being the general name for a class of very related compounds.
thanks a lot.. :)
