http://www.flickr.com/photos/65820711@N04/7155999664/ I GOT 520 MAKING SURE THANKS If the length of AB = 64 cm and the length of BC = 8 cm, what is the length of CD? (Note that AB is tangent to circle F.)

Directrix (directrix):

Here's the theorem needed to solve the problem: If a secant segment and tangent segment are drawn to a circle from the same external point, the product of the length of the secant segment and its external part equals the square of the length of the tangent segment.

OKAY THANK YOU DIRECTRIX

Directrix (directrix):

What equation did you use to get 520?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AB2 =BC × (BC + CD) (64 cm)2 = 8 cm × (8 cm + CD) 4,096 cm =64 cm2 + 8 cm(CD) 4,032 cm2= 8 cm(CD) 504 cm = CD i believe i miscalculated

Directrix (directrix):

Here's my work. Let's see. (AB) ^2 = (BD)*(BC) 64 ^2 = 8 * (CD + 8) 4096 = 8 CD + 64 4032 = 8 CD 504 = CD

Directrix (directrix):

You wrote 520 up top. Your posted work looks correct to me.
