I'm an instrument encyclopedia, and I don't charge anything! Plus, you can have as much one-on-one learning experience as your heart so desires!

You really shouldn't teach yourself the violin. Doing so could easily lead to bad habits and, consequently, injury. If you are really interested in learning the violin, I highly recommend taking lessons from a private teacher. There is no shortcut to learning any classical instrument. In the end, if you really want to learn well and sound good, you have to take lessons from a professional and put in the practice time.

@Doublebass7 wat about a violin choir instead of a private teacher

It really depends on the situation and how serious you plan on getting. Do you have any prior experience playing the violin or another string instrument? Would you still be getting some sort of individual attention? Learning correctly the first time is quite important and fixing bad habits can take a very long time.

ive never played the violin. but everyone in the violin choir will get the same amount of attention. dont u agree?

If you want to do it for fun, a violin choir may be a good option, but if you are very interested in learning it well and seriously I suggest getting a private teacher. In my experience with groups, the focus is more on the ensemble rather than actually learning how to play. If you are worried about the expense of lessons, a good option may be finding a conservatory bound student who would charge less than a professional.

A great resource site is violinist.com. It is full of both amateur violinists as well as professionals. They have great forums to check out if you have more detailed questions. Good luck if you decide to pursue the violin. It is a great instrument :).
