Germans were present during the Industrial Revolution, and demonstratively much before that. They were present ever since the British settled in America, and they had an active part in the American Revolution: Hessian troops fought on the British side (the most famous example being the Battle of Trenton). Germans have developed their own dialect in America, PA Deitsch, which is mainly spoken by the Amish, who are obviously of German descent. The German Americans retained a strong cultural influence in America until both world wars occurred as they were forced to sacrifice their roots to 'the language of democracy'. Fun fact. Nazis influenced the German American community by triggering the creation of the German-American Bund. German Americans have little cultural influence in present day America, although they are still the most numerous European American group with around 50 million people.
