to round to the nearest dollar, you underline the dollar position (the ones place) and look to the immediate right (which will be the tenths place)...you see a 9, and that makes the ones or dollars place round up,so the 9 in the ones column will become a 10, or a 0 and carry the 1. The tens place is a 9 so will increase by that 1 to become another 10, or a 0 and carry the 1 again into the hundreds place,....and the last 9 will then increase by THAT 1 and become a 10...end of places, so you'll end up with $1,000. :-) NO need to write the 0's behind the decimal the LAST digit in your answer is ALWAYS the name of the place you are rounding to, so to the nearest dollar, only write as far as the ones place...the decimals aren't needed....
