Trevor's dad decided to get him a cell phone for his birthday. Cell Plus has a plan that costs $20.00 per month plus an additional $0.06 per minute. Cell Best has a plan that costs $30.00 per month plus an additional $0.05 per minute. How many minutes can Trevor talk and both cell plans cost the same amount?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

If x is the number of minutes talked then the Cell Plus plan would cost \[20.00+0.06x\]How would you express the Cell Best plan?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean. isnt it asking for how many minutes he can talk.. not the best cell plan

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Cell Best is the name of the 2nd company. We are looking for the amount of time he can talk where the total cost (TC) of both plans would be the same. If the total cost of the Cell Plus plan is given by 20.00 + 0.06x = TC The total cost of the Cell Best plan would be given by 30.00 + 0.05x =TC Do you see how I developed these expressions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, so then after i have both of those equations. what do i do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

get your variables on one side of the equation...always

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

The two total costs have to be equal so set the equations equal to each other.
