OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Why is it called Linear Algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's dealing with vectors (lines)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Straight lines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you took my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

come on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lols

OpenStudy (experimentx):

u = ax + by v = cx + dy <--- until now i have learned lol ... dealing with linear combination

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Straight lines. hard to see the relation when I watch the first 10 khan academy vids.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both of you did to let you know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha yeah well... that's math for ya, buddy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Linear algebra is the branch of mathematics concerning finite or countably infinite dimensional vector spaces, as well as linear mappings between such spaces. Such an investigation is initially motivated by a system of linear equations in several unknowns. Such equations are naturally represented using the formalism of matrices and vectors

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

So, that's the justification for confusing millions of 8th grade students?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for copying that directly from wikipedia, Dhashni.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Inky, you're studying linear in 8th grade? I don't believe it.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Now who do i give my medal too? Thanks a lot @SmoothMath

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

No, I'm self studying linaer in 9th grade.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Impressive.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

I should've started in 8th grade because I was formally enrolled in algebra 2. Somehow the next year I got shot back to geometry. And, I forgot like everyhing with a use for linear algebra. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Luckily, we math teachers don't need an excuse to confuse people. We do it just because.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

excellent!! also you are doing differential equations on 9th grade!!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Actually, I think the start of calculus is harder than the start of linear. The start of calculus focuses on the hard to understand concept of limits. The start of linear is mostly just memorizing procedure and notation :P

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

@experimentX , i was just curious. I'm not nearly to that point yet. Have to finish vectors, as well as partial derivatives.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

@SmoothMath , story of my life 0.o

OpenStudy (experimentx):

i think i saw somewhere you were posting solutions of differential equations!! I am nothing compared to you guys!!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

er, I created a differential equation on accident :D

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

By the way, do you guys have any textbook suggestions for linear?
