solve for X: tan36= 12/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan 36/12 =x I think lol its late i should go

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 16.51658 i just don't know how to get that answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12/tan 36 =x lol sorry

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

\[ \tan 36 = \frac{12}{x} \] Multiply both sides by \(x\) and then divide both sides by \(\tan 36\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yikes had my calculator on the wrong mode. Thank you both!

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

You're welcome! :) Yeah, that's happened to me before as well. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Radian vs degree mode? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES! I never know which to use!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well When you in higher level math use radian :). Or if in doubt do the problem using both.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the important thing is that usually it doesn't matter once you isolate or solve for your trig function you can worry about whether to apply radian or degrees. LOL sorry I am probably more confusing.
