OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/6-x/2=x-5/3

OpenStudy (auctoratrox):

x = 11/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

not is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so for 6,2 and 3 not will be the common denominator 9

OpenStudy (auctoratrox):

He means that the answer depends on how you write the question. I'd be more careful and use grouping symbols next time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the answer? x=11/9?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

in the right part is (x-5)/3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? is 1/6 - x/2 = x-5 /3

OpenStudy (auctoratrox):

what he wants to know is if the x-5 is in the numerator of the quantity on the right

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

what is your answer on my question ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i am really confused

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

why ? in the right part how you have the terms x-5 and this all are in numerator and 3 is denominator of x too not just for 5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 5 is over 3

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so than in the first step you need getting what will be the common denominator for 6,2 and 3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that is ...

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

can you calcule it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes right

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

than no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than no?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

than now how do you add this fractions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do not know

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

sorry but my internet conection is very slowly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is okay you really are being a great help

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so than can you make the calcules ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer x = 11/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it wouldnt be if the common denominator is 6 ...right?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so because you said that the right common denominator will be 6 so than 11/9 sign that not is right ,ok ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right okay then it would be some thing over 9 right ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

no because 9 not is right there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

six is going to be the commom denoninator right

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay now what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you really are helping me sooo much thank you

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

make the calcule for denominator 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how /

OpenStudy (anonymous):

common denominator 6 wouldnt be it ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so there is 1/6 -x/2 =(x-5)/3 and you know that the common denominator is 6 what you need to do ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do not know

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

the first term has denominator 6 so this sign that this numerator you not need multiplie by nothing ,the second term has denominator 2 ,so with this numerator you need multiplie by how many ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes right

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

and in the right part what you need to do ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

there is denominator 3 so than you multiplie by ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

you need multiplie 3 by how many for get 6 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

right

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so after this on place of numerators how many will be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im gonna go have a smoke ill be right back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you arent getting back to me so ill come on later

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

1/6 -x/2 =(x-5)/3 so attention because 6 is the denominator common the first numerator multiplie by 1 because the denominator of this is 6 the second numerator multiplie by 3 because 3*2=6 and in the right part because there the denominator is 3 so than the numerator there need multiplie by 2 because 2*3=6 so hence your equation will be 1/6 -3x/6 = 2(x-5)/6 so 1-3x 2x-10 ----- = ------- 6 6 what sign that 1-3x=2x-10 so add to both sides 10 and will get 1+10-3x=2x-10+10 11 -3x=2x and now add to both sides 3x and will get 11-3x+3x=2x+3x so 11=5x so divide both sides by 5 and will get 11/5 = x - hope so much that is understandably sure
