What is the slope of the line that is perpendicular to the line whose equation is 3x + y = 4? -3 -1/3 1/3 3

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Rewrite it's equation in y=mx+c form Now, for a line in the above form 'm' is its slope. And a line perpendicular to it will have the slope '-1/m'.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second one ? -1/3

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Umm no, slight mistake. the line is rewritten as: y = -3x + 4 Now what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x + y = 4 y = -3x +4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-3(m)=-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay i got a medal lol

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yes 1/3 right.
