I think a rhizome is a horizontally growing offshoot from a root and a tuber is an enlarged part of a rhizome specifically adapted for storage of water, carbohydrates, etc. But I am *not* a plant biologist and don't know for sure.

hmmm, they all seem quite similar. Do you know if they all  absorb nutrient/water like roots do?

I think they differ more in function than in form. Roots are for absorbing water and nutrients. Rhizomes have more to do with the species sending out adventitious roots and making itself bigger. And tubers have more to do with nutrient storage than nutrient gathering.
