I have to write a speech that has to be 5-8 minutes long and mines about 3. What could I add to make it longer?
probably more information on the topic, fun facts, interesting deitals, a nice supporting conclution, where you found your info, and people you want to thank or websites
Dig deeper by adding more detail to what you already have. Suppose it's on literature. Give it social perspective. What was happening when the book was written. e.g. Who were the peers of the author? What was the social background of the author?
Any stores that you can meantion as well?
Check your paragraphs. Make sure they are at least 5 sentences long: a topic sentence, at least 3 supporting sentences (more is of, too), and a concluding sentence. Don't think of it as "OMG! I have to add 5 minutes on!" Think of it as "I need to add a few sentences to each paragraph." This makes it manageable, and less stressful. Also, remember to speak slowly (but not too slow) so your audience can comprehend everything. Most students speak way too quickly, probably to get the experience over with. But then you are short on your time. So, take a breath before starting a new topic. Pause for dramatic effect (not too long), and get your audience involved. That last one can eat up almost a minute. Ask a show-of-hands question involving your topic. For example "How many of you have ever... da, da, da?" Then, wait for the hands to raise. Comment about this. If only a few raised their hands, you may have to give some details for the rest of the group. I hope this helped! Good luck!
*That's supposed to say "more is OK, too."
