Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, Information technology? Information Systems? System engineering? Computer Programming? MBA???? you just want to program.. what is the best??

computer science

If you really just want to program, Comp Sci. is your best bet. Make sure you know that's what you want to get into though. How much programming experience do you have?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

I echo the above comments. A curriculum in Computer Science is superior to any of the other options you listed for learning how to program. That said, I will add the following words of advice. Don't go into any information technology related profession wanting to "just program" and expect to get very far. There are a few reasons for this. First is the market: if you're not willing to accept duties in your jobs outside of programming, a lot of companies won't want you. The ability to do multiple parts of the job well is nothing but an asset. Second, while an information systems degree may teach you how to do some basic shell scripting and some of the others might actually give you a serious foundation on which you can begin your journeys as a programmer - do be aware that Computer Scientists are more than programmers. We're problem solvers. Engineers. We're not just interested in writing some code that can do something. We're interested in writing *the* code that can do what we want while consuming the least amount of resources. It's a distinction that requires a background in a wide array of topics (computer architecture, algorithms, etc) and, to my knowledge, the only academic program out there that equips you for that is a Computer Science curriculum.

mba

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

I'm sorry @thangeram, but I couldn't disagree more. What is your reasoning?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welll mba not only teaches to solve problem bt it also teaches management in it program so mba not only makes professional but also gets lots of knowledge of management and programing
