A frog fell into a hole that was 14 ½ feet deep. He could jump 3 feet, but he slid back a foot each time he jumped. How many jumps does it take him to get out of the hole?

So the frog actually manages to go forward (or up) only 2 feet/jump. That means that it needs [14.5/2]=7.25 jumps to reach the top. Since 7 1/4 jumps are not possible so it will have to make 8 jumps to reach out of the hole and then cover some more distance from the rest of the jump.

lol yup:) or you you could have just just 3-1 = 2 ft per jump:)
