Multiply: (x + 1)(x - 2). A. x2 - 2 B. x2 - 2x - 2 C. 2x - 2 D. x2 - x - 2 Can you guide me through it, I would like to know both the answer and how to do it! Thanks

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

(x + 1)(x - 2) x*x - 2*x + 1*x - 2*1 x^2 - 2x + x - 2 x^2 - x - 2 So the answer is choice D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The idea here is when you have (a+b)(c+d), you multiply the terms like so First terms: a*c Outer terms: a*d Inner terms: b*c Last terms: b*d Then you add them up: ac+ad+bc+bd

Thanks! :)
