I need alot of help...if someone can help me that'd be great :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what kinda math are you talkin? algebra? geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rates and ratios

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright do you have an example to show?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe i can help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright zhang you can help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is your questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do, The Ratio of the size of the television screen to the distance a person should sit from it is 1:6, how far should the person sit away from the television.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you mean how far away should a person sit *from a 20* inch television!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! sorry I forgot that !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause i have those questions before...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand it...i've struggled through math alot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just screensize * 6 then.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I screensize ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well the 1 to 6 ratio means that you should sit 6 times farther than the screen size

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

its not given in the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, how do I calculate that, it doesn't make any sense too me...so the answer is a person should sit 6 times farther then the 20 inch television screen?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

oh it does tell you the screen size :) yes you got it...20*6 = 120 in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/6 = 20/x so x = 120 (In the question they should have identified the 1.) Optimal is 1:6 ( one foot to a 6 inch television i assume.) 1/6 = 17/x = x = 104.....Most TV rooms aren't 104 feet long.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So he should sit 120 inches away from the screen?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But then theres more problems I baisically don't understand math whatsoever, and i'm failing the class, so I need ALOT of help :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what is next questions?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

talk to the teacher to try to get extra help after school.....or find a tutor....or get a study group...also great materials online (khanacademy.com) anyway we can only help with specific questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I see, well thanks for your help anyways :)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

OS is still a great resource to get help so keep asking questions....i just wanted to let you know you had options to get broad help with your math class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i'm trying the site you gave me, i'm just signing up and then i'm possibly going too give it a try.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok great...it has videos and you can do lots of practice problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's really hard too use, I find it complicating.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so I'm not quite understanding rates and ratios, I need to little bit of help with the questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give another example...I'll see if I can help, but I don't guarantee it;)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

start a new thread with any new questions...sorry i didn't see your posts earlier
