AP=10cot(30), PB=6

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any ideas or work you have so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No clue

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

tan(30) = opp/adj tan(30) = 10/AP AP*tan(30) = 10 AP = 10/tan(30) AP = 10/0.577350269 AP = 17.32050808 ------------------------- tan(45) = opp/adj tan(45) = PB/6 6*tan(45) = PB PB = 6*tan(45) PB = 6*(1) PB = 6 AB = AP + PB AB = 17.32050808 + 6 AB = 23.32050808 So the approximate answer is 23.32

I really hate cosign, tan...etc They're so confusing!!!! Thank you so much

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

In this case, you can use the idea that a 45-45-90 triangle has 2 equal legs and a 30-60-90 triangle has one leg of 'x' and another leg of x*sqrt(3) But in my opinion, it's best to get more practice and more used to cosine, sine, etc because you'll be seeing more of it later on (in trig class)

I know....:( It's so confusing my teacher taught it but she flew over the lesson so I really didn't get to understand it...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Yes it's definitely confusing for the first time. So go over anything and everything over and over until it starts to click.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will do!!! Thanks so much

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
