do the domains in a permanent magnet always align in the same direction or only in the presence of external magnetic field?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

come on quarkine!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

domains are regions where mag moment is along a particular direction(which can be any)..but when a magnet is brought near, all the domains react to the magnetizing field and aligns in a particular direction...so at this moment they are along same direction...even when we remove the external field they will remain align as long as they are not disturbed by other magnetising fields, thermal agitation or mechanical shocks...2morrow it is on my exam :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow,do the magnets behave like magnets only when the domains are aligned in that direction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am talking about a ferromagnetic substance..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the diff is that the domains are less aligned in dia and para.... anyways if the alignment is lost, don't they attract?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends on- to what extent they are lost..if it is lost such that they resultant mag moments add to zero then they wont, else they will however little it may be..

rthanqs ya.
