Since there's a UNIX philosophy, is there a Microsoft/Windows philosophy as well as an Apple/Mac philosophy?
There is actually something like "Windows philosophy". Mostly it is about the composition concept and the user interface part - design programs for users not for other programmers. That means: Simple and intuitive user interfaces Natural workflow Should work out of the box No technical knowledge required there where it is not required
OSX is actually a unix-like system under the hood, so you could say it uses the UNIX philosophy.
Microsoft's philosophy has seemed to be: write monolithic programs that attempt to do too many things, and do them well enough to ship. Tightly integrate them so you can charge for everything. Apple: make it pretty and own everything from the hardware to the software.
