Difficult Math problem ~ A and B ran a race of 480 m. In the first heat, A gives B a head start of 48 m and beats him by 1/10th of a minute. In the second heat, A gives B a head start of 144 m and is beaten by 1/30th of a minute. What is B's speed in m/s? (A) 12 (B) 14 (C) 16 (D) 18 (E) 20

@lgbasallote @alexwee123 @accessdenied @dpaInc I think I know the answer but i'd like to see what you guys get:)

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Oh, you excluded me. *starts crying*

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

ugh algebra =_=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol..the question isn't exactly for me so I'm just glad knowing the answer:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Though my guess is A

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Yea, this is just a system of two linear equations. I'd take a look, but it's boring. It's really just the words that are confusing, not mathematical concepts.

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

can someone help me w/ polar conics? :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll just close this question cuz I have another one:)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

--> (480-48)/(t+6) = (480-144)/(t-2) where t is time it takes A to finish --> t = 30 --> speed of B = 336/28 = 12

Your awesome @dumbcow :)
