OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3 + x) + y = (x + 3) + y is an example of the commutative property?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually no,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the order isn't being switched completely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the y is in the same place as before

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well the commutative property is still being used

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, somwhat but not completely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the point of communitive property is to completley change the order of the equation so it would look totally different from the previous,

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

No, the commutative property can be used on pieces of an expression. You don't have to change the entire expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess ur right. i'm doin flvs and i got more to learn i guess. u probably just helped me from looking stupid in the near fututre

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, you're not looking stupid at all since you're engaged with learning in an interactive fashion.
