what is 6x squared + x -5 factored

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(6x-5)(x+1). I wish I could explain how I got that, I'm not sure how to explain it well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean basically we know that the second terms have to be 5 and 1 because 5 is prime, and we know one of them has to be negative. From there... we know it has to be either 6x and x or 3x and 2x. Then you just kind of see which way works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be x-5 not 6x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it was x-5, (x-5)(x+1)=x^2-4x-5 The 6 has to be there to make it 6x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i get it thank you man i use the x method
