Solve. 64 = 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I work this out?

OpenStudy (callisto):

No unknown(s), How can we solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's an Exponential Equations. These are my options: x = -2 x = -1 x = -(1/4) x = -(1/3)

OpenStudy (callisto):

And where is the unknown?

OpenStudy (callisto):

\[64^x =16\] or \[64 = 16^x\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's the problem! The instructor didn't add in any subscripts or unknowns!

OpenStudy (callisto):

Alright, tell him/her that there are some problems with the question. Let's try to solve both and see which gives you the answer from the options For the first one, \[64^x =16\]\[(2^6)^x =2^4\]\[2^{6x} =2^4\]\[6x=4\]\[x=\frac{2}{3}\] For the second one, \[64 =16^x\]\[(2^6) =2^{4x}\]\[6 =4x\]\[x=\frac{3}{2}\] So, neither of the equation is the one your instructor wants to set :| Sorry...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's alright. Thank you for trying it out anyways
