i wanna learn to play violin... whats the best approach?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

keep your mind set on it and dont start off trying to play big stuff lol take it step by step xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, I'd recommend you have a violin. Second, find someone who knows how to play it that can teach you. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rebeccaskell94 got the violin, but dont no any1 close who plays. any way i could learn by myself or is that jst too tough? @CHAD159753 am a pretty stubborn guy lol, but thanks for the heads up any website in particular (aprt frm utube lol)? or ebooks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tough myself guitar..... lol

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

pick up the violin then play like you've never played before!!! \m/

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@kevissen i hear that violin is hard to self teach...but if you're naturally talented or very dedicated i guess it's possible to be self learned

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um @kevissen sometimes (I'm learning piano) I just play the instrument and get a feel for it, but I'd reccomend you maybe find some books or some video tutorials. Violin is a very hard instrument, but I know you can do it! Can't wait to hear your first song :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CHAD159753 lol i no guitar, basic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol I think I have it down pretty good if I do say xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can just imagine my ears bleeding Chad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol your right Becca I suck xD

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

but in my personal opinion..a mentor would be nice...a lot (and most) of the people who self teaches themselves instruments only know the how's and not the why's which becomes a problem when they progress..i.e. some self-taught guitarists only know power chords and dont know a finkleshilling about the music theories

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xD omg lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@every1 aything i SHOULD HAVE known before getting my violin? the wood quality, chords etc...? lol i basically bought the cheapest violin...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I play the violin :) I was taught by a teacher though but if you are having trouble and you need some help.....talk to me. I have been playing for 10 years now so I can play pretty well I think :) Oh and the cheapest violin...they're not that good :) just saying. You may get through strings easily, they sometimes go out of tune often:) so anyway...talk to me about it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ listen to her lol

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i like that uhmmm what was it called...."stradavius" was it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HEY!!! I was trying to sound helpful. Sorry now that I've read that reply I agree with you @rebeccaskell94 but from now on I'm going to sound nicer lol :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, no, no you were nice! lol But I know nothing about violin so I was like..she's the person to talk to x) you're fine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok :) I see what this situation is :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would rent a violin first incase you don't end up liking it. Hire an experienced violinist so that you learn the proper technique.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its possible to teach yourself, but technique is really important on the violin, so pay attention to your hand position and tone. Try video recording yourself or playing in front of a mirror so you can see what you are actually doing instead of what you think you are doing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PianoForteDesigns tnks for the tips @mmoul18 and @rebeccaskell94 girls girls dont be fighting now . be nice lol!! jk well thanks for the help mmoul18 @mmoul18 so you dnt think its a tad late to learn an instrument like violin? and help with so online guide...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have been playing flute for about 5 years you should get some music books and lessons there are plenty of places were you can rent instruments even online

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's never to late to learn!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mina gonzalez tought me when i played she made it easy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You really shouldn't teach yourself the violin. Doing so could easily lead to bad habits and, consequently, injury. If you are really interested in learning the violin, I highly recommend taking lessons from a private teacher. There is no shortcut to learning any classical instrument. In the end, if you really want to learn well and sound good, you have to take lessons from a professional and put in the practice time.

If you have a violin, I suggest you go to Johnny Thompson Music Store and buy a beginner method book. This book teaches you where to place your fingers, the right position, and provides you songs.

also you could buy the Essential Elements book 1 for violin. They are really helpful :)
