How does high dose of muscarinic agonists cause hypertension since there is no parasympathetic nerve innervates vascular smooth muscle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is probably due to reflex hypertension from activation of the baroreflex. Muscarinic activity is usually mediated via the vascular endothelium. It causes the paracrine activity of Nitric oxide, which acts as a vascular vasodilator - which would typically lower blood pressure. If you lower it enough, the baroreflex can induce reflex hypertension by increasing the heart rate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah I get it but why it doesn't cause hypertension at low dose..I guess it's because it's not strong enough to arouse baroreflex right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that is correct.
