OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain how y=4*4^x is an exponential function.

Parth (parthkohli):

Easy as that, it is an exponential function because it has an exponent.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[y=4^{x+1}\]

Parth (parthkohli):

\(\Large \color{MidnightBlue}{\Rightarrow y = 4*4^x }\) Notice how the function grows EXPONENTIALLY as the value of x changes.

Parth (parthkohli):

UnkleRhaukus is correct, that it will be 4^(x + 1) because 4 was multiplied.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

any function of the form y=b *a^x is an exponential function. - since 'x' is an exponent. Basically the variable term is an exponent, that's why. An exponential function "increases exponentially" - if you ever heard heard that phrase? Check this graph of your function to get a feel:|dw:1337400741638:dw| (P.S.- Note that the function never really touches the Y-axis - it just tends retricemptotically to wards it)
