From the "guts" of OS-Math, some unusual information just popped up on my screen. Attachments posted underneath.
Ya ! but ...
MayBe some web errors
If web errors, certainly not random ones.
that's weird :/
yes they are web errors... @farmdawgnation calls them templates (for the 1 and 3) as for the #2 that happens when the site *thinks* you're an administrator...it takes time before they realize that you arent..so until that time you have some powers that right @mattfeury ?
weird... I don't think it's OS's fault must be some mistake with your browser.
the number 2 looks like a dressed down version of my content. I believe everyone has the same content, but that the buttons themselves may be visible/hidden depending on other criteria. just a hunch
I think @amistre64 said it best. Essentially, we send your browser the markup and the styles for everything the site can do. The code that runs in your browser then makes decisions about what to hide or show. Although, based on this it looks like you had trouble loading the stylesheets for some reason. That can happen if Amazon's S3 CDN goes on the blink for your area. Don't be concerned though. While you could manipulate your browser to display the moderator toolkit buttons, they wouldn't do anything for you. We only send the processing code for those buttons down from the server for moderators. So, you could click them all day long, but nothing would happen.
non-computer studies/engineering students...dont feel bad...he does that tech-y term thingy a lot...even a computer engineer like i dont understand him...of course, im a weird one so i may not count
Interesting to me is that when I report a problem or an oddity with the interfacing of my computer with the OS-Math technological system, the reply always is that there's a problem with my computer, my browser, and now my region's server. And, I'm told that I'm the only user of this site who encounters these problems. While I believe that others may believe this to be true, I do not. The implication that I might have attempted to hijack the moderator functions is not appreciated. Not so long ago, I was at the helm of those buttons because of a glitch with the OS computer program. ------------- >"Essentially, we send your browser the markup and the styles for everything the site can do." Please, send my browser the OS-Math "lite" version. My browser is overwhelmed by this site (as evidenced by the attachments below) in a way that it is not by any other site on the web.
I did not mean to imply that you were attempting to hack the system to gain moderator privileges. I was merely addressing any concerns that other readers of this thread might have had about the fact that we transmit those buttons down wire to everyone. That said, the answer is most certainly *not* always the same. There are a million reasons why anything on a large network application can go wrong. When one person is seeing issues and another is not, the highest probability sits with an issue on the network or on the client. In the original issue that you presented here, our stylesheets didn't load. You were presented with the HTML content we serve up, completely unstyled. Since you're the only one who has seen this happen, that's most likely due to a hiccup on your end. The other issues that you presented are entirely different. If you're seeing those issues that's a problem on our end. Have you reported these issues in detail before? If so, please provide me with the links to the relevant posts. Without a proper indication of when these errors occurred, my hands are tied.

Hm. I only see two of the issues you listed reported in that thread (high memory errors and slow script warnings). I see no mention of issues with the scrolling autoload (ihavecometotheendoftheinternet.jpg) or MathJAX (processingmath0percent.jpg) or actual IE crashes (aproblemwiththiswebpagecaused.....jpg). Could you please point me to where those issues were reported?
@farmdawgnation Because of the lack of a site search engine. I cannot point you to anyplace on OS-Math where I have posted anything Several times, I have posted in reply mode to threads originated by other Askers who were reporting similar issues to mine. I will continue the search and may actually stumble upon them. My pursuit of a solution to computer and website issues has seemingly morphed into an insoluble personal debate with one person allegedly grandstanding and another allegedly grandstanding upon the other person's alleged grandstanding. In an attempt to report problems the solution of which might improve the OS-Math experience for all users, I made posts in the OS-Feedback. That attempt failed having been met with what I perceive as hostility. It is clear to me that my feedback is unwelcome here. I will return to assisting Askers with their mathematics questions as best I can with courtesy and competence and leave the feedback section to other users.
Hey there @Directrix . A couple of things to keep in mind: - As we've mentioned before, if you really find yourself needing to search the site (and I can see where you might), you can use Google and append site:openstudy.com to your search queries there. Indeed, sites that use Google's Site Search essentially do this. I do understand that that can still be unwieldy, but that has more to do with the amount of content on OpenStudy than anything else. - We do appreciate your posting in OpenStudy Feedback to inform us of bugs and issues that you run into. We get to them as time permits, so we can't guarantee handling them immediately. As an example, your performance issues are something that we've had problems with in the past, and we periodically release fixes to them as time permits and as we find specific problems that can be fixed. I realize we still haven't fixed all of these, and I do apologize for that. We do what we can, but we aren't perfect. - In the specific instance of the original bug you kicked the thread off with, that issue was a failure to download certain files. That has two possible causes: one a connection issue on your computer, and one an issue with the machines that send those files to your computer. Unfortunately, we have little control over either of those. - I honestly do not see how you perceive our remarks as hostile. I've looked through the interactions you've had when reporting other bugs, and both I and the other engineers have been civil and respectful in all of our replies. I have often been apologetic, because we are aware of continuing performance issues that we're working on. Most typically, when we compose our most civil and reconciliatory replies, you do not respond. We have taken this to mean that you have accepted that we are working to address your issues. Apparently that is not the case. - Last but not least, regarding grandstanding. What occurred is that you decided to claim that we had asserted there were no bugs on the site, and @farmdawgnation asked you to stop, as that assertion has never been made by any member of the OpenStudy team, nor will it ever be made. It was disingenuous of you to state that we had, and it was not in any way appreciated, particularly since he had been engaging you and discussing your concerns honestly and respectfully in this thread. All of this said, I believe @cshalvey has reached out to you in private, and would ask you to please bring up any further complaints about how we are handling your issues with him. We're always looking to keep interactions on the site positive, and I'm sure your feedback will help us do that. Sorry for any misunderstandings that have happened and any resulting hostility; let's move on and continue communicating openly, respectfully, and honestly. We'll look into the various bugs you reported here that we hadn't seen before. We appreciate all that you do to help users on OpenStudy, and will continue to work to make the experience you have doing so better and better.
