can anyone explain me why a conductor placed in uniform electric field is 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

conductor has free charges and when it is placed in the electric field then inside it distributes +ve and -ve charges in such a way that inside the conductor induced electric field has same magnitude as the external one but the direction is opposite.
