Is Fibonacci not commonly taught in elementary education anymore? I learned that in 3rd or 4th grade, I think.

I knew it because - I had to crack the computer's password - I saw my brother entering a the first 5 terms - I figured out the rest myself :D - he later told me that this was Fibonacci.

Odd. I learned it several times in school. It was commonly used as a way to relate math to the natural world, because of how commonly the Fibonacci Sequence occurs in nature.

I learned a lot regarding the practical nature in science and things like that, but that was in science/math/engineering competitions. Not school. We didn't do that type of thing very often, to my dismay.

I meant the golden ratio.

Yeah, I remember learning about the two things, but they were taught separately and didn't reference each other. I had to deduce it separately for use.

I am about to enter univ, but till date there has never been any academic reference to it - I doubt many people who haven't read DaVinci Code would know about it.

I have heard about Lucas - don't know too much about it though. and then there is that n-nacci thing - tetranacci and so on.. - generalisation of it Fibbo - but that goes a bit over my head.

The study of sequences and series is a large one, there are lots of sequences that can be considered interesting.

I'm extensively familiar with Fibonacci and Padovan. I spend a lot of time on Wiki. I'm always curious for new things though. If you enjoy math, what do you enjoy regarding it?

Fun fact: Sum of the first 10 terms of the Fibonacci series is equal to 11x(7th term). So you can play a game with your friends. Ask them to generate Fibonacci series and then to sum up the first 10 terms. Ask them to tell you only the 7th term and multiply that number by 11 and amaze your friends :D
