Can virus survive in space? since they don need to breath...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would imagine that the radiation would be a problem...

I imagine that Calliope is correct, though sadly it spoils the fun for a lot of Grade B Sci Fi flick writers in Hollywood. On a related and interesting note, epidemiologists have lately been paying a lot of heed to infectious bacteria which are carried long distances in the upper atmosphere - for example, tracking spread of bacteria which may be related to Kawasaki disease from Japan to Wyoming. They point out that the bacteria might have radiation resistant mechanisms, or the added genetic variation from all the mutation when they land might provide at least one strain with an evolutionary advantage. Though we took away the possibility space travelling viruses, we give you near space travelling mutant bacteria - so that should keep the script writers happy.

yes a virus may survive in the space because there r many viruses already in the space.........

Rampy, to the best of my knowledge science has yet to discover any viruses in space. :/ Entertaining as the possibility may be...
