jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What's the length of the base?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

count the number of squares in that yellow area...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or you can find the base, then the height and multiply the two values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is a lot faster... now you know why the formula is the way it is.... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't count it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you count the length of the bottom side of that parallelogram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I counted 6.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the base is 6 or b = 6 what about the height?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I counted 3...?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

count the largest amount you can for the height (the height is larger than 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good, so h = 6 Now use the formula Area = base*height A = bh to find the area of the parallelogram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x6 = 36.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
