what is the physical significance of momentum

Thanx

Philosophically, momentum represents the transition from Aristotelian physics, in which force directly affects position, to Galilean physics, in which force directly affects velocity, and position changes only by virtue of the change in velocity. As a consequence, it becomes extremely important, when trying to predict changes in position in response to a force, to know the original velocity -- i.e. the momentum.

It is always conserved. V1M1=V2M2. Unlike kinetic energy which also changes into heat and sound also after a collision
