Gino designed a garden for his rectangular backyard. The design he drew on paper is 7 inches wide. The width of his backyard is 42 feet. If his drawing is to scale and is 8 inches long, how many feet long is his backyard? Write a proportion using words. Then, use the proportion to calculate the yard length. Show your work.

Gino designed a rectangular backyard On paper the width of garden is 7 inches wide but the width of the backyard is 42 feet He has made the drawing to a scale, that means there is some ratio between actual backyard and drawing . Let's say the actual length be L and in drawing length is 8 so \[\frac{42}{7}=\frac{L}{8}\] I think you can find L now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i multiply 42 x 8 if so , i got : 336 now what ?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

\[L= \frac{42 \times 8}{7}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my answer ( 336) i now divide it by 7 , correct ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if so , i already divided it and I got 48 , is this the correct answer ?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Yeah 48 feet is the length of the backyard

Thanks @ash2326 ! (:
