Which of the following best explains why the diversity of organisms decreases as you move from shallow seas to deep oceans?
POSSIBLE ANSWERS: A. The lack of sunlight in the deep ocean limits the types of organisms that can survive. B. The levels of oxygen in the deep ocean are too high for many organisms to thrive. C. The low temperatures of the deep ocean would freeze most organisms. D. The salinity of the deep ocean is too high for most organisms to live.
D should be the correct answer.
''D. The salinity of the deep ocean is too high for most organisms to live.''
Thanks !(:
The correct answer is A. In some places, like near a major river outlet, the salinity of water near the shore is *slightly* lower than the salinity in the deep ocean. Not much, slightly. It is well within the tolerances of the animals which have become adapted to live there. Whereas lack of sunlight puts a strict limit on the amount of photosynthesis which can occur in the deep ocean (pretty much none can), so without much primary production, not much energy at all is available to consumers in that environment.
blues, its D.
