Brad wrote the statement shown below. If a triangle is obtuse, then all angles do not measure less than 90°. Which of these is logically equivalent to it? Answer If a triangle is not obtuse, then all angles measure less than 90°. If a triangle is obtuse, then it has no angle measuring more than 90°. If all angles of a triangle measure less than 90°, then the triangle is not obtuse. If all angles of a triangle do not measure less than 90°, then the triangle is obtuse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it D?

OpenStudy (ledah):

Obtuse angles are usually bigger than 90 degrees

OpenStudy (ledah):

so You would be correct. I believe

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

looks like D to me.... but I think Brad needs some remedial geometry

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, the converse is NOT equivalent to the original statement

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If all angles of a triangle measure less than 90°, then the triangle is not obtuse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D: im so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.. its D only

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you have something like "If P then Q", then the equivalent statement is "If not Q, then not P"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am 100% sure... its D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The only choice that fits that form is "If all angles of a triangle measure less than 90°, then the triangle is not obtuse. "

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A is not correct.. as in case of right angled triangle.. its not holds correct..!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you guys : )

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The answer isn't D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jim is right, it's c)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhhhh why is it C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If a triangle is obtuse, then all angles do not measure less than 90 If all angles of a triangle measure less than 90°, then the triangle is not obtuse. --it's saying the equivalent thing

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Because saying something like "if it is raining, then it gets wet outside" is the same as saying "if it's not wet outside, then it is not raining"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jim, you are a genius :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

thx josh, does that make sense tahtah99?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thank you : )

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
