Find the degree of the following polynomial and determine whether it is a monomial, binomial, trinomial, or none of these. -5y^3 + 7 a. 3; binomial b. -5; monomial c. 0; binomial d. 4; binomial

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

monomial, binomial or other stuff comes later..just see the degree.. degree is the highest power of the variable in the given expression .. will this help ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i keep getting c and i'm really not sure

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

how can you say the degree is 0 when you have a y^3 there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, it's crazy! =P

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

having said that..can you guess the ans now? hint : a "y^3" there!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your polynomial is a binomial ( 2 terms). The degree is 3 because of -5 y^3
