ok im bad with exponents and like terms...maybe its the placement of the symbols.....but this is the problem i just did...maybe somebody can tell me if im right... this is the problem: x^6-2x^5+9x^6-9x^5+4 this was my answer: 9x^7-7x^5+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you only have x^6 and x^5 in the original, you shouldn't have any x^7 in your answer.

When you're combining like terms, all you need to do is look at the coefficiants ( the numbers in front of the variables) don't mess with the exponents. I think you're close, but not quite there.

The coefficients of x^6 are 1 and 9. Combining those gives you 10.

The coefficients of x^5 are -2 and -9, combining that gives you -11.

So, your answer should be\[10x ^{6}-11x ^{5}+4\]
