If parallelogram JKLM is rotated 270° counterclockwise around the origin, what are the coordinates of the endpoints of the side congruent to side KL in the image parallelogram? K’(-4, -6); L’(3, -3) K’(6, 4); L’(3, 3) K’(-6, -4); L’(-3, -3) K’(-4, 6); L’(-3, -3)

We basically are rotating segment KL 270 degrees counterclockwise. This is the same as rotating KL 90 degrees clockwise (since they'll land at the same spot) To rotate any point (x,y) 90 degrees clockwise, you simply swap the x and y coordinates and you change the sign of the y coordinate So you go from (x,y) to (y,-x) For example, (1,2) rotated 90 degrees clockwise turns into (2,-1) So in this case, point K is (-4,6), so (x,y) = (-4,6) Where does K go if we rotate it 90 degrees clockwise?

ohhh k thank u soo much sorry im wrtting down what u say as notes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no worries, that's great that you're taking notes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so where does K go (any ideas)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey what ur sayin is workin

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes it's a very neat trick

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so what did you get for the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K’(6, 4); L’(3, 3)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

got it 100%, very nice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaa see i think im getting it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's awesome :)
