an integral is simply a sum of infinitesimal terms,
a line integral is the sum of the infinitesimal lengths that corresponds to the length of the line over the given interval

In a standard integral, the domain over which you sum the terms is defined by a mathematical numerical interval [-5;5] for instance.

In a linear integral, the domain is defined geometrically as a path C between two points A and B.

For instance, work done by a moving force is the sum of all the infinitesimal works done along the path. Hence a geometrical domain of integration that can be converted in numerical terms if necessary.
