Does this site tend to run slow for anyone else? I use the latest version of Google Chrome, and while all of its high-tech web features are wonderful in terms of appearance and functionality, it tends to be sluggish at times (which seems to be a result of how much the computer needs to work to display the site's content). This is particularly so when I am typing long responses with many equations. The site becomes VERY sluggish then. Are there any workarounds for this?

have you enabled antivirus's browser extension??
that may be the reason...coz this happened to me!!

I noticed Chrome was sluggish for me in lots of areas, so I switched to Firefox which works beautifully. Maybe you should try a switch just to check if its smoother for you.

Your experience will vary a little bit based on your computer's particulars. We primarily test against Chrome, but we're also using MacBook Pro i7's. While it is a little bit slow at times (for example switching to a new question can be slow due to server lag, same for chat) I don't notice many client-side issues.
Do you mind running the SunSpider benchmark on your machine?
http://www.webkit.org/perf/sunspider/sunspider.html
Just paste the sharable URL it gives you with your result in a reply to this post. It's the text box right above the text that says "(You can bookmark this results URL for later comparison.)"

And what browsers were these run in?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Chrome.

Heh. RLY. Your results are significantly slower than mine. What are the specs on your computer?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It's new within the past year.
OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):
Your results shouldn't be as different as they are. So, for some reason, our computers (both Windows and Mac machines) are leaving yours in the dust when the specs aren't that different. Granted, we're running on quad-cores and you're on a dual-core machine, but JS is single-threaded. Hmm. :\

What's the exact version of Chrome?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
20.0.1132.17 beta-m
OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):
Could you please try reverting to the stable version of Chrome and re-running the benchmark?
OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):
I'm wondering if the beta version will have additional debugging code in place that may affect performance.

I'm getting an error right now when trying to switch back to the regular chrome channel... I'll try again later and post the statistics.
