Find the distance between -1 and a point x, assuming that the point x is greater than -1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it (x) - (-1) = x + 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... the distance is |-1 - x| no matter what x is....

Parth (parthkohli):

Oh yes absolute value comes in.

Parth (parthkohli):

Absolute value means distance from zero. He's added -1 so it becomes distance from -1.

Parth (parthkohli):

But then if x is greater, then we could say x + 1 right?

Parth (parthkohli):

Parth (parthkohli):

Hey you were right @QRAwarrior

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok great! Thank you.

Parth (parthkohli):
