A function with an input of 4 has an output of 10. Which of the following could not be the function equation? y = x + 6 y = 2x + 3 y = 14 - x y = (2.5)x

Parth (parthkohli):

If x = 4, and you're getting 10, then you're certainly adding 6 to x. You have the answer lol

Parth (parthkohli):

The first one *cough*

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

@ParthKohli If x = 3 then 14 - x = 10 as well. This question is asking the student for the function which is NOT going to work.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

@flame619 you may want to give this question another try.

Parth (parthkohli):

Oh so I see that the second one is NOT working.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Sorry if x = 4, then 14 - x = 10, I made a typo, sorry.

Parth (parthkohli):

\(\Large \color{Black}{\Rightarrow 2(4) + 3 \neq 10 }\)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Either way -- @flame619 this problem is asking for the function which does NOT fit the description given in the problem statement. When x = 4 which function does NOT give y = 10? That is what's being asked.
